BIC BITS... The BIC board will meet on Tuesday, July 1, 2008  at 7 PM. All members of the Council are invited to attend and to express their thoughts.

As everyone should know, the Knights of District 8 are working with the “Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament”  to help facilitate the renovation of the Belmead Mansion. Click this link  FrancisEmma Inc - Home   read the history. It is fascinating. The Mansion will be used for multiple type events including weddings, retreats, and business meetings.

New Knight CandidatesPlease provide the Form 100 of your prospective candidate to Jim Cooke or Greg Toler prior to the Council Meetings.  This will allow the committee to review the form  and provide guidance as needed to the candidate.

These questions may help our brothers and their families be more proactive in taking charge of their health.  10 Questions You Must Ask Your Doctor

Activities SurveyAs a member of this council, you are our greatest asset. We value your judgment, we appreciate your opinions, and we rely on your participation for continued success. Since joining the Knights of Columbus, you have undoubtedly become familiar with many of our varied programs of involvement — programs where you can personally apply your talents and fulfill your ambitions. In an effort to satisfy your desires and interests, we ask that you complete the following survey and return it by mail or bring it it to the Bishop Ireton Center. Download a copy now.  Your opinions are welcomed.

Bingo Workers:  Are desperately needed by your council. As you may have read elsewhere in this newsletter your Council donated $94,000 to charity this past year. Although there are almost 300 members of this council only about 25% of the membership volunteer for bingo or kitchen bingo. We need your help. It's only one night every 5 weeks in a smoke fee environment. Many teams are in dire need of help. Please volunteer for a team by calling GK Rick Brennan and volunteering. You only have to work one Wednesday evening every five weeks. It's great fellowship and a lot of fun. Husband and wife teams are encouraged to participate in this smoke free environment. Remember this is how your council earns the money to support all of our charities.  The Bingo and Kitchen Schedule for 2007 has been posted.  (Click Here)

Missing Members:  Do you know of a Brother Knight who has missed a few Council Meetings?  Call him up and invite him back.

 Iraq War Deployment

SPC Charles W. Cranford, a member of the 1710th Transportation Company,  U.S. Army Virginia National Guard, deployed for Iraq in May 2008.   He is the son of George and Judy Cranford.  Anyone wishing to write to him can do so at:  CHARLES CRANFORD, 1st Platoon, 1710 Transportation Company, COB Adder, APO AE 09331

Sgt Jason Broughton, a U.S. Army Reservist, son of our brother Knight, Deacon Eric Broughton and his wife, Carolyn, had been deployed to the Iraq War.  He departed mid-August 2007.   Deacon Eric thanks everyone for their prayers for his son while he was deployed

The Homeless:  Remember that on the 2nd Thursday of each month your council prepares bag lunches for the homeless. A hot meal is prepared and served to the less fortunate.  Starting time is 8 :30 AM.  Please help this worthy cause.

The Charity Committee is looking into the frequency of  when our charity awards are distributed. Because the majority of our charitable donations are derived from bingo proceeds it is imperative that we distribute monies to charitable causes according to the percentages as determined by the state gaming commission. Your bingo and charity committees will keep you informed of any changes or procedures.

Have you taken your Second and Third Degree?   We know that there are many in the council that have not received either of these degrees and, unfortunately,  the records are not up to date.  We are asking any brother who has not taken either of these degrees to contact George Cranford by email (click here) or Jim Cooke at 739-9381.   Sponsors should also attend degrees to lend support to their candidates.  Please call so that we can provide you with the details. Contact PGK Rick Brennan.  (click here) for more information.

Contact by Email...If you have an Email address, please share it with your council. Sometimes it is important to send important information (illnesses/deaths; special events) to the membership. Please send your address to George Cranford. His Email address is  Pastwalker@comcast.net
