USO Canteen Dinner Dance on May 21st - Eva and Clara want to thank you all so much for your
participation in our successful event last Saturday. 'Divine Intervention' brought us a replacement DJ and
Miss Outstanding Teen Chesterfield, 2011, Savannah Lane, at
practically the last minute. 'Mom's Kitchen' menu was so well-received
that there were virtually no leftovers after people went back for
seconds. Special thanks to Horace Scott and Victor Agosto in the
kitchen, who executed most of the menu for us (if only I'd have told
them when to serve it!!!) Thanks to all who pitched in to decorate
(great plan, Clara!) and clean up, plate salad and cake, and serve our
guests. Thanks to Whitey Keller, Diane DePlato, Marty Prebish, the
Duncans, and those others of you who sold our tickets. Thanks to
those of you who donated uniforms and memorabilia-along with the
artifacts from the Powhatan World War II Roundtable, the Bingo Hall and the Clubroom looked fantastic!
Receipts look good, and our charities may get some matching funds from a close party (wink!) Our guests
from the USO and the Fisher House were impressed and enjoyed themselves. Special thanks to Natalie
Bradshaw, who scored 15 separate door prizes and handled the traffic at the door. Thanks to Tricia Riggs
of the RIC's USO Center, for the Gift Baskets and to Jan for hawking them so well! The Knights want to run
it again (jointly, please!) next year! Prayers go out for a still-recovering DJ who couldn't be with us, Chris
Craig. Thanks also to Buddy Cranford and Paul Marretti, who got us a WAC uniform and USO decorations
from Kroger respectively, and to Bobbie Wade for her female mannequin, which 'wore the WAC'. Special
thanks to Cliff Borgman, whose photos of the event are being put on this website for your enjoyment.
Thanks to Bruce Alt, whose energy and enthusiasm and problem-solving in the kitchen were invaluable.
And, of course, thanks to Gene Zimmerman, for the prep work on the facility and ordering some of
our supplies, and my Alan for the seating arrangements and the MC-ing. What a team! (Eva)
